A little goes a long way for Bronte and WA kids

Easter is the perfect time to connect with loved ones and come together to help sick, vulnerable and disadvantaged children and families get the vital support they need.

From 22 March to 11 April 2023, Woolworths customers are encouraged to dig deep and purchase a $2 Easter egg-shaped token or donate to Telethon at the checkout or online. All funds raised through the Woolworths Easter Appeal are vital to ensuring a better and brighter future for WA children.

Bronte Murphy is among the many West Australian kids who will benefit from the Woolworths Easter Appeal. At 11 months old, Bronte was diagnosed with a rare chromosome disorder delaying her in all areas of development, including motor, speech, social and intellectual. She also has Hypotonia, which causes decreased muscle tone and this can affect her balance and ability to do some tasks such as crawling and climbing.

Bronte attended a Telethon-funded program at the Healthy Stride Foundation in 2020. Bronte’s mum, Karla said: “I was so impressed with their approach. Bronte immediately felt comfortable and formed strong bonds with the therapists.” This was Bronte’s first exposure to intensive therapy and it was successful, at the age of two and a half she took her first steps.

While Bronte’s abilities are hindered by her condition, her energy, curious nature and love for dance, music, swimming and horse riding are not.

Since joining the Riding for the Disabled Association of Western Australia (RDA Carine), Bronte has thrived.

RDA Carine combines the transformative power and therapeutic effects of horse riding through equestrian activities that expand the horizons, develop abilities and enrich the lives of children with physical and intellectual conditions.

“Bronte has achieved so much at RDA Carine. She gets so much enjoyment out of the people and animals she has the privilege to work with. Even though it’s hard work, she always looks forward to her weekly sessions,” Bronte’s mother, Karla said.

“The support we receive from RDA Carine is vital to Bronte’s life. From our family, thanks so much for your donations and for giving Bronte the opportunities she has had.”

The dedication and support of a 10-year partnership with Woolworths and the generosity of the WA community enable Telethon to make a real difference in caring for sick kids. On behalf of WA families, thank you to everyone who donates to the Woolworths Easter Appeal this month.
