Step up and join HeartKids for Two Feet & A Heartbeat

West Australians from all over the state are encouraged to register for the annual HeartKids Two Feet & A Heartbeat charity walk on Sunday, October 17 to help raise funds for kids living with congenital heart disease (CHD).

The 4km or 8km walk is an opportunity for HeartKids supporters, friends and families to come together in support for the eight Australian babies who are born with congenital heart disease each day and reflect on the four Heart Angels who sadly pass away each week.

In 2021 Australians can register to participate in a covid-safe community event in Perth, Broome, Bunbury, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, and Pannawonica. Prior to the walk, a ceremony will take place to pay tribute to Heart Angels, then the walk will conclude with entertainment. A virtual experience featuring online activities will also be offered to make the annual event more inclusive for those who can’t make it to a physical location due to proximity or circumstances.

The goal for HeartKids in 2021 is to raise funds to expand its support services and programs across Australia, with a particular focus on those living in regional communities. According to HeartKids’ CEO, Fiona Ellis, the organisation is heavily reliant on community support to raise awareness and funds.

“Money that is raised through Two Feet & A Heartbeat goes straight back into the community through HeartKids support programs and services including in-hospital and family support, camps for young people living with CHD, as well as vital education days and peer support programs to help families cope with the significant impact of the disease,” said Ms Ellis.

“HeartKids also helps families when they are at their most vulnerable through financial assistance, bereavement support and a dedicated Helpline that provides families with direct access to a support coordinator who can provide assistance or simply be there to listen to their concerns about their child’s prognosis.“
