Just under 20,000 people attended the inaugural Telethon Family Festival, presented by Coles, at Optus Stadium.

Under glorious skies on Sunday 25th October, West Australian families poured into the sold out event from 11am for six hours of entertainment, rides and activities, in the knowledge that the $5 entry was going to Telethon.

Telethon Chairman Richard Goyder thanked the West Australian public for their support of the Family Festival.
“The support of Western Australia was shown in numbers today. In what has been a challenging year for many, the inaugural Telethon Family Festival presented by Coles was all about bringing the community together in the spirit of Telethon to enjoy a great day out while raising money to help kids that need it the most,” he said.

Optus Stadium CEO Mike McKenna said the combination of West Australia’s most beloved charity, Telethon, and the World’s Most Beautiful Stadium, Optus Stadium, had proved irresistible to the public. “We were delighted that this was a sell-out in our first year,” he said. “Despite the hot conditions, it was great to see families out and about enjoying all of the Festival activities in the Stadium Park, but at the same time maintaining physical distance where possible and practicing good personal hygiene.”

The sanctuary of the shaded seating bowl overlooking the Bankwest Community Stage proved popular while the free rides at the Telethon Side Show Alley and the HBF Active Zone also attracted lots of families.

All proceeds from this inaugural event will contribute to the 2020 Telethon total, to be announced later on tonight.
