Your small change can make a big difference in the lives of children like Kelsie, thanks to the Woolworths Small Change Appeal.
From 18 September through to Telethon Weekend, shoppers at Woolworths purchase a $2 token, or make a donation to Telethon at the checkout, with 100% of the funds raised going directly to Telethon.
These contributions help to fund research, programs, and equipment to support a better and brighter future for children in WA.
Kelsie, a vibrant nine-year-old from Broome, is living proof of the impact that community support can have.
Kelsie was diagnosed with the rare genetic condition Congenital Disorder of Glycosylation 1A (CDG1A) at the age of two, after her parents, Lee and Jon, noticed developmental delays.
Despite the challenges posed by her condition, including neurobehavioral issues and motor difficulties, Kelsie’s determination and her family’s dedication have seen her make remarkable progress.
Today, Kelsie is thriving in mainstream school and is an active participant in her local community. One of the key contributors to her physical and social development has been the new Starkick Kimberley centre, an all-abilities football program supported by Telethon.
“Football is the language of Australia, and even more so of our Broome community. As Kelsie grows up, we want her to be connected to kids her own age, and Starkick gives Kelsie that opportunity,” says her mother, Lee.
“This is the first community program she’s played in for over four years. There is no other program like Starkick, and it’s beautiful to see her included.”
Starkick is one of the 136 beneficiaries and charity organisations that Telethon supports annually, helping sick, disadvantaged, and vulnerable children across WA.
All funds raised through the Woolworths Small Change Appeal will go to Telethon, ensuring that children like Kelsie have the chance to participate in everyday activities and experience the joy of friendly competition.
